In an effort to enhance student outreach and introduce incoming students to the Honor System, the Committee will reintroduce Dorm Talks in the Fall 2024 semester.
The resolution aimed to support students by requiring U.Va. Dine locations to provide a comprehensive list of allergens for food items on GrubHub.
Hancock and Carson Breus, vice chair for sanctions and third-year Commerce student, said they are collaborating to explore fresh sanctioning avenues.
The 36 new student leadership roles were divided into four distinct categories: the Administrative, Cabinet, Organizations and Support and Access Services branches.
Howard first introduced the Committee’s new members, including both the Committee's representatives and the newly appointed executive committee.
Kopelnik said that UJC also saw many triumphs over the last term, including a 40 percent decrease in case processing times over the last semester and a 50 percent increase in applications to join the UJC.
The newly confirmed positions included the chief of cabinet, chief of support and access services, director of university relations, director of coalition engagement and rules and ethics chair.
Among the two other major branches of student self-governance — the Honor Committee and Student Council — the UJC is now the only organization without an endowment.
Howard said her focus on compassion stems from her prior involvement on the side of accused students in previous cases processed by the Committee.
Valentina Mendoza Gonzalez, new Student Council president and third-year Batten student, spoke on her commitment to promoting diversity and inclusivity at the University.
The resolution, sponsored by second-year College Rep. Imane Akhanous and third-year College Rep. Yassamine Kamal, said the University’s current “lack [of] an adequate number of prayer spaces” has caused difficulties.
Laura Howard, vice chair for hearings, secretary and third-year College student, will succeed fourth-year College student Hamza Aziz as chair of the Committee.
As a CIO, student groups receive several benefits, including eligibility for SAF funds, which are appropriated throughout the year across a series of rolling deadlines.
With the intent to both inform and entertain, the hypothetical student organization “Dumbledore’s Army” was found guilty of hazing and sanctioned by a UJC trial panel.
